The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme provides a shared curriculum for primary schools throughout the world. It does not replace the district scope and sequence or the state requirements but expands on them providing breadth and depth to understanding for primary age children. In addition, it provides the students with an international perspective that relates their world in the United States and Colorado to a larger global community. The curriculum is designed as an interactive whole that eventually encompasses the full range of disciplines and adds to the district and state guidelines.

The IB PYP at Ranch Creek combines the best research and practice from a range of national systems. This is based on a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant and engaging educational framework for all children. The philosophy stems from a commitment to structured inquiry as an ideal vehicle for learning. Six transdisciplinary themes provide the framework for the exploration of knowledge. Teachers and students are guided by these themes as they design curricular units for exploration and study. Students explore subject disciplines through key questions often in ways that transcend conventional discipline boundaries. In the process, they develop an understanding of important concepts, acquire essential skills and knowledge, develop positive attitudes and learn to act responsibly.
